Free Kindle Beatles book worth at least a look

Happened to catch this book "Life on Two Legs" in the Amazon Kindle store yesterday. It's written by the founder of Trident Studios. The foreward is by Paul McCartney. The opening chapter talks about the recording of "Hey Jude." It's free, at least for now. (Prices are known to change without warning in the Kindle store, from my experience.) Worth at least checking out since it's free.

Julian Lennon book signings in New York and Los Angeles

Julian Lennon will sign copies of his soon-to-be published children's book, "Touch the Earth," at two U.S. Barnes & Nobles stores this spring. The updated and "extended" trade edition of the George Harrison book "I Me Mine," which will be published in February, can now be pre-ordered from Amazon.com in the U.S. and Amazon.co.uk in Great Britain.

"A 400-page memoir from the Quiet Beatle? Can it be? Well, yes and no: only about 60 pages of this earnest tome, originally published in 1980, are devoted to Harrison's recollections of life before, during and (notably) after the Beatles. His memories, which manage to feel fresh and distant at the same time, come to readers via transcripts of his conversations with Derek Taylor (1932-1997), the Beatles press officer and ghostwriter of Brian Epstein's memoir. Harrison (1943-2001) was only in his late 30s when I Me Mine came out-the Beatles had formed, changed music forever and disbanded before his 28th birthday. The rest of this volume consists of photos with whimsical captions ("the author enjoying a cheese sandwich with some friends" is assigned to a picture of Harrison with a sitar) and facsimiles of his handwritten lyrics (including a fairly different version of "Taxman"), each accompanied by a brief explanation (ideas expressed in "It's All Too Much," for example, were inspired by LSD and "confirmed in meditation"). Mark Lewisohn's only North American appearance in 2016

Mark Lewisohn, author of "The Beatles: All These Years, Vol. 1 - Tune 1," announced on Twitter today he'll appear Oct. 22 in the Atrium of the Toronto Reference Library from 2 to 4 p.m. His talk will be titled, "Beatles '66: Tune In: Toronto,"  It'll be his only appearance in North America this year. Admission is free. More information on the library website.

George Harrison "I Me Mine" book gets expanded edition

Genesis Publications announced today an expanded version of "I Me Mine," the book that Harrison first released by Genesis in 1980, then later published in a mass market edition by Simon & Schuster in 1981, and reissued by Chronicle Books in 2007. Genesis says the new version contains 53 rare photos, with several unearthed for this new edition, and contributions from Olivia Harrison and Derek Taylor. It will be issued in a limited edition of 1,000 numbered and stamped copies. The book has been expanded to 632 pages and 59 more songs have been added for a total of 141 songs.

Part 1 is the story of George Harrison's life and music through his own words, and those of his friend Derek Taylor. Part 2 has his song lyrics. A new cover has been designed by Sheperd Fairey.

Beatles author to spin record business stories on new show

Dave Morrell, author of “Horse Doggin'” and “1974: The Promotion Man New York City” about life in the record business in the '70s, will tell more of his tales on the first episode of “The Classics presents 'FABCAST,'” a new Beatles podcast from United Stations Radio Networks that will premiere on April 1. Morrell will co-host the show with Howie Edelson and Stephen Bard.

Dave was a featured speaker at 2014's Beatlefest in Los Angeles and has been a panelist at three of the GRAMMY Museum's Record Theatre events. You can hear Dave talk about some of his stories on a recent episode of “Things We Said Today.” A new interview with Morrell will be in the next issue of Beatlefan.

Big collection of original Beatles Monthlies for sale

Eil.com is advertising a collection of 59 original issues of the Beatles Monthly for sale. The list of issues starts with No. 2 (no Number 1, unfortunately) and goes up to issue No. 55 with only issue 37 missing. There is a second copy of issues 64 through 69. They describe the condition of the issues as "fantastic" (their word), though they say a few issues have the original price written in hand by the news dealer. The price is $596 USD or £395 UK. The original magazine published 77 issues from 1963 to 1969. It was revived in 1976 with all the originals reprinted with added content, then continued on until it ended again with issue 321 in 2003.
