Beatles to release limited edition 'Yellow Submarine' picture disc single

 The Beatles announced on social media May 30 they'll release a limited edition vinyl picture disc single of "Yellow Submarine"/"Eleanor Rigby." The mixes are taken from "1" and "1+," according to a source we asked at UMG. The release date is July 6. You can order this directly  from Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.ca (Canada). UK to get Beatles' film 'Yellow Submarine' back on big screen for a day

Picturehouse Entertainment announced Jan. 15 that The Beatles’ animated hit film "Yellow Submarine" will return to cinemas across the UK and Ireland on July 8. This big-screen revival will give generations of audiences the golden opportunity to revisit Pepperland for the 50th anniversary of the film’s original release.  #YellowSubmarine

New Beatles LEGO 'Yellow Submarine' announced

LEGO revealed the first pictures and information Oct. 12 of its new set based on the Beatles' movie “Yellow Submarine.” The company said the set, to be available Nov. 1, will feature over 550 LEGO bricks and figures that represent the four Beatles in “Yellow Submarine” costumes.

According to the description, you can “take a surreal trip under the seas in the LEGO® version of the Yellow Submarine from the iconic 1968 animated musical fantasy film inspired by The Beatles. Ideal for display or role-play fun, the Yellow Submarine features loads of cool, authentic details including a cockpit for the included mini figures of John, Paul, George and Ringo.”

Creator Kevin Szeto said the set is his tribute to the Beatles. “The creation of the Yellow Submarine model was really my way of showing my affection for The Beatles, as well as trying to pay a small tribute to The Beatles phenomenon. " Designer Justin Ramsden said he was also a big Beatles fan and called the LEGO model “a dream come true.” The U.S. list price is $59.99, though some dealers will certainly have them cheaper.

Free screening of Beatles film "Yellow Submarine" at Comic Con

For those of you at Comic Con in San Diego, we've gotten word that  there will be a free screening of The Beatles' film "Yellow Submarine" Thursday night, July 21. Those attending ComicCon can pick up tickets at the Alex Ross or Mattel booths. Tickets are free and limited to first come basis. Anyone attending will get a free gift courtesy of Mattel.

Update #2 on the Beatles Yellow Submarine Hot Wheels: Deluxe package

From what we're seeing, there is still some confusion about purchasing the Beatles Yellow Submarine Hot Wheels, even with the links we posted the other day. A deluxe package can be purchased through the Beatles' official website. That second link all of what you see below: all six cars, the Yellow Submarine car, the remastered "Yellow Submarine" CD, "Yellow Submarine Songtrack," the DVD/Blu-ray and the vinyl album. Update on the Beatles Yellow Submarine Hot Wheels

We've heard from some people who have unable to find the new Yellow Submarine Hot Wheels at Walmart, which is where the company told us they'd be in our original story. Is a Beatles LEGOs toy coming??

You see the new Yellow Submarine Hot Wheels? Well, here's what's called a tribute to the Beatles done with LEGOs that apparently is going to be more than a fan's dream. No word on when we'll see this in the marketplace.

"A Hard Day's Night" not a classic?

So the other day, we picked up this book because we love old movies. More than 5,000 entries, the cover says. So we're looking through the book and all the ones you'd expect are there. "Casablanca." "Gone With the Wind." "Ben-Hur." "King Kong." "The Godfather." Not everything in the book is on the list of best movies, but many are, as they should be. But some of the worst were there, too, like "Plan 9 From Outer Space." 

So, as we often do with books, we go looking for Beatle mentions. Like "A Hard Day's Night." Turn the pages to the H's. Not there.  Huh? And no "Help!," "Magical Mystery Tour," "Yellow Submarine" or "Let It Be." Hmm... Curiously, though, the Monkees' "Head" is listed. As is the Dave Clark Five's "Having a Wild Weekend." So is "Jimi Hendrix." "Jailhouse Rock." "Rock, Rock, Rock." "Go, Johnny, Go!" "Beach Blanket Bingo." "Beach Party." 

Tucked in the back are checklists of directors' films. It is there (and only there) we found AHDN, plus "How I Won the War" and the McCartney tour film "Get Back" listed. In tiny print.

The key seems to be the mention in the Editor's Note that the book excludes ("painfully," it says) British films, except for early Hitchcock films and also James Bond movies, but makes an exception for films that "feature predominately Hollywood-associated casts or directors." So presumably, then, John Boorman, who is British, incidentally, and his direction of "Having a Wild Weekend" makes it, but the films of Richard Lester, an American, do not?

By the way, this is not a recent book, but came out in 1999. I have to admit I like the book otherwise because I love reading about classic movies. But this was a huge error and there's no excuse for it.
