New information on McCartney-Airplane picture from Jorma Kaukonen

 We have some new information on this picture of Paul McCartney and what appears to be members of the Jefferson Airplane, thanks to Matt Hurwitz, whose cousin knows Airplane guitarist Jorma Kaukonen. 

According to Matt, Jorma replied to the cousin that it was him and Paul Kantner and the picture was taken at Marty Balin and Jack Casady's home on Fell Street in San Francisco. (And Lord knows I've probably passed it, since I've driven on that street many times.) 

Given McCartney's Pepper mustache and his attire,1967 is obviously the year when it was taken. And in fact, according to Mark Lewisohn's "The Beatles Recording Sessions," McCartney had traveled to the U.S. in April, 1967. so this photo was likely taken then.

Beatles book alert: Special price for Apple devices on Allen Klein book

Fred Goodman's biography, "Allen Klein: The Man Who Bailed Out the Beatles, Made the Stones and Transformed Rock 'n' Roll" is now only $2.99 in the Apple iTunes store. It's not as critical as it should have been, in our view, but it does go behind the scenes of what he did. Since Amazon's Kindle price is higher, I suspect this won't last long. Get it while you can.

The Beatles Airplane: Paul McCartney with Paul Kantner?

Interesting photo of Paul McCartney and perhaps Jorma Kaukonen and Paul Kantner. The earliest reference online I can find to it is 2014, and it appears from online references to have been taken at a jam session. Where's the tape recorder?

On Jan. 26, Palladia is showing "Glastonbury 2004" (Paul McCartney) at 4 p.m. ET.

Big collection of original Beatles Monthlies for sale

Eil.com is advertising a collection of 59 original issues of the Beatles Monthly for sale. The list of issues starts with No. 2 (no Number 1, unfortunately) and goes up to issue No. 55 with only issue 37 missing. There is a second copy of issues 64 through 69. They describe the condition of the issues as "fantastic" (their word), though they say a few issues have the original price written in hand by the news dealer. The price is $596 USD or £395 UK. The original magazine published 77 issues from 1963 to 1969. It was revived in 1976 with all the originals reprinted with added content, then continued on until it ended again with issue 321 in 2003. 

Madonna, not McCartney, is 'People's Choice'?

Wasn't it Alexander Hamilton who said "The masses are asses"? That's what one of my teachers told me, and it sure seems true since Lady Madonna beat out Paul McCartney (and Stevie Wonder, Steve Tyler and Prince!) as Favorite Music Icon at the People's Choice Awards tonight.

The mystery of the missing podcast

Early in November, a podcast began appearing online called "Beatles Anthology Revisited." The series consisted of 18 parts with new shows appearing each few days ranging from 1 1/2 to over 2 hours and paid tribute to the 20th anniversary of "The Beatles Anthology". It was incredibly well-done with interviews woven in the shows throughout from the Beatles and others. 

Well, of course, this series was completely unofficial. And it got noticed by the powers that be because now it's disappearing. At least one site that did have it no longer does. If you're interested, find it where you can. As soon as you can. 

And we'd love to hear from the person behind it.
