New Beatles TV show, book

ITV has announced it will be doing a special documentary on the Beatles' hits tied in with the new "Beatles 1" DVD. It's titled "The Nation’s Favourite Beatles Number One." We mentioned this on "Things We Said Today" on the "Beatles 1" DVD announcement show about two weeks ago. There's no air date or any word on whether it'll be seen in the U.S.

Also, author Andy Babiuk has announced his expanded "Beatles Gear The Ultimate Edition" will be released on November 10. He says the new 512 page book is double the size of the original with over 650 additional new photos including many never before published images of the Beatles with their gear. You can order it here.

OxTango Music releasing upgrade of Esher White Album demos

OxTango Music, which released the excellent remaster of the Beatles' Star Club tapes and several others, announced today they're releasing an upgrade of the Beatles' White Album demos, aka the Esher Tapes that they issued a few months back. The new version features a more full-bodied sound with less hiss and overall better balance, we're told. Customers who have bought the previous release will get a free upgrade.

Here's a sampling of the improved version ...

Magazine alert -- Beatles on cover of new MOJO

The new MOJO, just out on the stands in the UK today (Sept. 29), features a huge section on the Beatles. It includes a year-by-year look at their Number 1 hits from their first in 1963 to their last in ’70, Paul McCartney’s candid discussion on John Lennon in an exclusive extract from Paul Du Noyer’s new book on McCartney, and an exclusive interview with "Let It Be" director Michael Lindsay-Hogg.

The free CD, "Songs The Beatles Taught Us," has 15 original versions of tracks they covered by Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Ray Charles, the Isley Brothers and others. Start looking for it on newsstands in the U.S. around mid-October. You can subscribe to the print version of the magazine through Amazon.com here.

Rory Storm and the Hurricanes revealed

Anthony Hogan's new Kindle book "From a Storm to a Hurricane" is fairly respectful to Rory Storm/Alan Caldwell, given the fact he got a lot of pictures and assistance from the singer's sister, Iris, who's done a lot to preserve his legacy. But it's a good book nonetheless and well worth a look. It's only out electronically so far. And for you Ringo freaks, there are a few early pics of Ringo with the band, including a couple that weren't familiar to us.

We welcome new station KRHV-FM in Mammoth Lakes, California. Beatles fans there can now enjoy the show every Sunday morning at 6:00. New TV show about Apple in the works

Former Apple CEO (and longtime Beatles associate) Tony Bramwell announced on Facebook today that there's a new TV show being made on the Beatles' Apple Corps. No other details are available yet. Coincidentally or maybe not, a search on Amazon.com for "Strange Fruit: The Beatles Apple Records," the documentary on the Beatles' record label, shows it's unavailable. It is on Amazon Prime. As we reported, the documentary had a tough initial debut back in 2012..

Watch for more details on the new Apple TV show here or on Beatles Examiner.
