Beatles "1" update: eBay vintage bundle, PopMarket 2015 version special

Want a Beatles "1" bundle without having to travel to Canada? An eBay seller is offering a 2011 version. (The pictures of it are on this page.) (Thanks to Mike Rapsis for the alert.)

Of a more recent vintage, Popmarket is offering 24-hour specials on four of the 2015 combos of CD and DVD (just the regular release, no special bundles with extras) at prices ranging from $23.99 to $47.99 all with free shipping.icon And, of course, there's still Amazon in the U.S. or in foreign countries.

Countdown to the Beatles "1" DVD/CD - What's in store, part 7 of 7: Some final thoughts

With the release date of the "Beatles 1" and "1+" DVDs coming on Friday, this is the last of our seven advance looks of what you'll find. (You can see the rest of this series and check out all of our coverage of the new release at this link.)

Our review of the set that we posted Wednesday wraps up many of the details we haven't mentioned in this series. But a couple of final thoughts. It's good to see "Free As a Bird" and "Real Love" here. As we note in the review, "Real Love" has some changes that are quite interesting. And "From Me To You," now in mono on the CD after being in stereo in 2009, can only be because it's in mono on the first DVD. The mixes do present some interesting moments (like the guitar at the beginning of "The Ballad of John and Yoko" video that stands out more than before). Overall, though, things sound great. We've been enjoying the CD mixes especially. You will, too.

Some news: The reports of possible delivery problems from Amazon.co.uk have been cleared up. Everyone is getting what they ordered and on time. The problem was caused by erroneous emails sent by Amazon. However, the reports that Australian shipments are being delayed roughly a week are apparently true because of late deliveries from overseas. According to the unconfirmed report, this affects all the configurations with the exceptions of the stand-alone CD and DVD, though this doesn't completely make sense why they would be unaffected. Still, if you're in Australia and you don't get your delivery on Friday, this apparently is the reason.

You can order the DVD,CD or both at this link. Versions for the U.S., the UK, Germany, Japan and Canada can be ordered there. And, again, don't miss our review of the full set on Examiner.com. For another view of the set, check out our "Things We Said Today" partner Allan Kozinn's review on the Wall Street Journal site.

Finally, thanks for reading this series. We hope you have enjoyed it. Look for more of our Beatles coverage here and on Examiner.com, where we also have columns for Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. Please follow us here and subscribe to our Beatles Examiner column

And when you're Beatles shopping, be sure to check out our That's What I Want Beatles store at Amazon.com and our UK That's What I Want Beatles store at Amazon.co.uk. We'd appreciate it if you'd bookmark them and visit them often, especially for the upcoming holiday season.

With the release date of the "Beatles 1" and "1+" DVDs coming this Friday, this is the sixth of seven advance looks of what you'll find. (You can catch up on the rest of this series and check out all of our coverage of the new release at this link.)

Remember how the videos in the bootleg collections went one video right into another? Well, that's not the case on the "1" video disc which uses animated menus to introduce each film. For "Yellow Submarine," for example, you have a periscope instead of the "i". The best one might be "Hey Jude," which actually reads "Hey Jules," which, of course, refers to Julian Lennon, who Paul McCartney wrote the song for.

The one thing the menus do is cause a slight delay in getting to each film. This was annoying at first, though that has dissipated since. What made them easier to take is the humor built into them. Disc 2, by the way, doesn't have them. It uses title screens with countdown clocks, though not the actual screens since even the black-and-white films have color ones.

Two bits of news: JB Hi-Fi in Australia is showing a delayed Nov. 13 (instead of Nov. 6) delivery date on their website. And reports on the Hoffman forum say several people who have ordered from Amazon.co.uk have gotten notices of possible delivery problems because of the demand. This is only affecting Amazon.co.uk at this point and nowhere else as far as we know.

You can order the DVD,CD or both, which comes out Nov. 6 around the world, at this link. Versions for the U.S., the UK, Germany, Japan and Canada can be ordered there.

To close, the fifth restoration video is now up. And our long review of the full set is now up on Examiner.com

With the release date of the "Beatles 1" and "1+" DVDs coming this Friday, this is the fifth of seven advance looks of what you'll find. (To catch up on the rest of this series and all of our coverage of the new release at this link.)

When the "1" and "1+" release was announced, it was mentioned that the "Eight Days a Week" was assembled from Shea Stadium footage. What they didn't say was how great that footage looks. We mean fantastic! Wait till you see it. It will certainly make more people want it.

You can order the DVD,CD or both, which comes out Nov. 6 around the world, at this link. Versions for the U.S., the UK, Germany, Japan and Canada can be ordered. And be sure to catch up on the rest of our coverage of the Beatles "1" and "1+" DVD/CD set at the "Beatles 101" link at the right.

And a little bit of news for everyone asking: The vinyl release will be Dec. 4 globally. Remember, you heard it here first.

Oh, and Ringo tweeted this on Monday (with the picture):

Countdown to the Beatles '1' DVD/CD - What's in store, part 2 of 7: The deluxe book

Copyright Apple Corps Ltd.

With the release date of the "Beatles 1" and "1+" DVDs coming next Friday, this is the second of a few advance looks of what you'll find. (Part 1 is here.)

The booklet:

If you buy either the Deluxe DVD or Deluxe Blu-ray edition (outside of the U.S., order it here), you'll get a 124-page book (see above) that includes detailed notes on both the recording of each song with recording dates, the various recording personnel (including George Martin, Geoff Emerick and Norman Smith), the chart history in both the U.S. and UK and the story of the making of each video, with filming dates, directors and locations. (See picture below.) The songs are discussed in a two-page entry that also includes a photo.

For example, for "Help!,' which is represented on the set from the session done at Twickenham Studios on Nov. 23, 1965 and not the movie, the text discusses the history and recording of the song, Beatles comments (in this case, John Lennon saying it was a cry for help) and where the video was first seen (the BBC's "Top of the Pops" show).

Additionally, there's an 11-page appreciation of all the videos by Mark Allen in the front of the book. The book is only available in the deluxe three-disc set that includes two DVDs or Blu-rays and the remastered/remixed CD.
